I believe most of us picture Castle Amber being on Kolvir somewhat apart from the city of Amber, yes? In 9PiA when Corwin and co. flee to Rebma and are taken to the castle it is mentioned that Castle Rebma sits in the center of the city. So is Reb and imperfect reflection of Amber, Z made a mistake, or have we I been imagining it wrong all this time?
I imagine Kolvir to be a huge mountain, not something more modest like the Acropolis in Athens. The smaller size would make it more likely to be in the center of the city.

Huh. I've normally pictured the castle on the edge, but in a way that might still be considered the center (i.e. the center edge, with some curl around city.) As for Kolvir, I never pictured it as huge. More of a "city on a hill" type thing or a mount Royal of Montreal size. (For scope they have specific legislation about not allowing skyscrapers to be higher then Mont Royal.)

Interesting. I always assumed Kolvir was tall. Maybe it was the book cover illustrations or that map RZ made. I'll have to take a look at the section in 9PiA where Corwin sees it in the distance when they are driving through Arden.
