There is a confusing sequence in Jack of Shadows where Jack and Morningstar are having a discussion. The tricky thing is that for several exchanges of dialog the speaker is not identified.
Turns out that if one looks at the original magazine and the book version there is a line left out of the book. You realize the error when you think about person A and then B and then A again and by the end of the exchange the wrong person is talking.

"Why?"
"Do they fear you?"
"We have no designs upon the lands of light."
"I know. But do you not also watch the border, in your own
way?" asked Jack.
"Of course."
"Why?"
"To be aware of what transpires along it."
"That is all?" Jack snorted.
