I often wish I could get into Erick's head about character generation. He has often mentioned types of characters that don't work well in ADRP but I can't ever recall him saying which ones did. For example, I'm pretty sure in the rulebook he discourages players from pumping all of their points into one stat. The "specialist" simply has too many weaknesses and wouldn't be a good character to play. However, spreading the points out among all attributes as well as as many powers as possible doesn't seem to work either, since that character can't do anything well. If you're not careful, every character idea that a player comes up with is a "bad one" for one reason or another. Eventually you get to the point where you wonder if it's even possible to create a "good one." So what's the best mix? What sort of advice do you give your players as to how to best generate an Amber character?

I guess I allow players to go with "specialist" characters if they want to and don't worry too much about it. If they want to put all of their points into Strength (for example), I can hit them with a Psyche conflict, and so on.
Maybe tell them that they should be strong in all areas. That would get into their heads. :-)
