The stereotypical Amber adventure is often considered to be the "Throne War" where each player is vying for the ultimate prize, which would be the crown of Amber.
I'd be interested to know how this scenario worked out:
1. Did you run it as a single session game or as a long-term camapign.
2. Did you find that players were continually making and breaking alliances, or did they divide up into factions quickly and stick with that?
3. Any special rules that you implimented for this game? Did you use full powers, etc, or an abbreviated list?
4. Did you do some sort of pre-gen characters or create them in the usual way?
Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

The only throne war gaming session I was involved in had everyone brought to Amber under false pretenses. Then there was a bit of drama and one of our PCs was suddenly 'outed' as a true Prince of Amber and current contender for the throne. Whereupon that player got that deer in the headlights look and became entirely inarticulate. He truly had no clue what to do next. The session ground to a halt, alas, and it never regained enough momentum to really get going. So I guess you'd call ours a single session game without players continually making and breaking alliances. Please, someone tell us about a game which worked!

When I first started playing Amber, our GM would run games every week, but when he needed to recharge his batteries it was an opportunity for someone else to run a Throne-War. It was understood that the throne-war would be a one session thing, and cabals did in fact form rather quickly. The auction was madness, though. Lasted at least two hours, as we auctionned things such as secret passages of Amber Castle, Support of the Nobility etc etc.
Those were fun. I never did run any throne-war, but one of my campaigns was very throne-war-esque: the throne was up for grabs but other things were going on.
Throne-wars are a fantastic, albeit confusing, introduction to the Amberverse, btw.

One of my pbem games was primarily a throne war. It lasted two years and did come to a single conclusive result, with one of the players being acclaimed as King by the survivors.
However, most of my campaigns have an element of throne war in them. After trumps, it is one of the things thats makes Amber well.. Amber

I was always under the impression that a Throne War was primarilly a short-term game. I guess I never thought that one could last for two years.
