I'm 'good' at tarot reading, so, without changing the system, i use from time to time to estimate the difficulty, the context or to see if there's a unespected consequence to the use of a caracteristics and powers.
I hate preventing my players from doing something, that's not the point.
But what i like about 'dices' is that it brings unexpected things.
It's even better with cards, because (for me) it gives me ideas, context etc.
Does anyone used some card system/inspiration in his practice of Amber RPG ?

This has me thinking about using a deck as inspiration for the nature of the next conflict/challenge. Suit could represent the four attributes. Which would certainly make me think outside of "you get in a fight" cycle. Endurance based challenges in particular... Might draw two cards and roll with that as a mix of challenge possible solutions.

I sometimes use tarot cards and fate dice to decide on somethings in the game if I feel like I am forcing the players onto my 'story' path rather than let them decide on the course of the game. I have also made simple computer programs with tarot cards for the elders to cast their fortunes before the game begins and sometimes between story arcs. This can result in some imagined pairs of elders and NPCs that sparks ideas for the game.
