 Boards a little dead recently
« Thread Started on Jun 16, 2008, 8:43am »

I apologize for the lack of time I have spent on the boards recently, but I've had a few projects on the front burner and that has pushed the boards to the back burner for a while.

I'm in the process of putting together and organizing all of the Erick Wujcik quotes I can find. This has been an ongoing project of mine for years and now seems like a good time to try to tidy it up a little. I'm over 20 pages at this point, in a Q&A style format. I'm not entirely certain where it goes from here; maybe just sits on my hard drive.

I've been picked to edit and organize a rules set for a "retro-clone" RPG based on the Original Edition of D&D. That may or may not eat up chunks of my free time.

Anyway, my hope is that this board will continue to expand. I only know of two other decent ADRP boards -- one of these recently crashed and is starting over, the other is populated by many posters who enjoy Amber but don't like ADRP.

I'll make this a higher priority soon, I promise! :D

Well, there are a couple of other Amber boards out there with some traffic. (Well, Shadows of Amber is kind of dead, too.) The RPGPundit one gets some posts on a semi-regular basis.

It could be that there aren't that many people interested in talking about Amber any more. It's not like there are any new books, RPG materials, or anything else really being created on a regular basic. You have to rely on a few people who are running games and spreading the love by word-of-mouth, and they may not post to boards.

Well, it's also possible that some of the folks who stopped in for a while went away and never came back since we've been so quiet. I hope that if we get something started, maybe the next time someone stops by it'll be interesting enough so that they come back. (fingers crossed)

I'm guilty as well. I wandered off to play some other games and only recently got back interested in Amber Diceless, so I came back to visit. Not much has happened here, though. :-(

Well, part of the problem is that there are only a half-dozen or so people who have posted 10 or more times. What that means is that if somebody does happen to post something, it may never get any response becasue we don't have a "critical mass" at the moment to sustain discussion. And if you post and no one replies, where is the incentive to post again?

I hate to bug people on other boards to come here, but there must be some way to generate some enthusiasm. Any ideas?

Most of the other Amber forums are dead most of the time, so don't feel too bad. I think that the problem might be that ADRP encourages each Game Master to make the game his own, so there may not be as much need for Game Masters to go and talk to others about it.

Or, I may be full of crap.

Also, not so many people know what Amber Diceless RP is, so you're working with a somewhat limited audience already.

Look around the web. Once there were hundreds of active Amber sites. The only way we're going to regenerate the interest in Amber is to bring Amber to a wider audience. One thing we can do are to talk it up on general game sites and provide links to this place (and other Amber forums).

But until a Second Edition ADRP actually gets published, the game will continue to drift into oblivion. No hobby remains active for long without a regular influx of new participants.

Yeah, and it's been a long time since any offiial support came out for ADRP. When you think of it that way, I guess it's amazing that there are as many ADRP fans as there really are.

Once again, I'm a slacker. Time passes and no Amber activity on my part. :-(

Somewhere I have a list of topics to toss in as thread-starters, but I fear that there aren't enough posters to sustain discussion. Sort of like being short of "critical mass."
